Not Kimono Studio

Welcome to our Not Kimono Studio. Here we celebrate the beauty and craftsmanship of traditional arts. Our studio focuses on teaching three exquisite and elegant forms of art: low-temperature glass/colored glaze accessories making and embroidery. We aim at bringing traditional crafts into daily life and reviving ancient techniques against mass production in modern times. We are looking forward to sharing a unique handicraft experience with you.

Low-Temperature Glass / Colored Glaze (琉璃)Accessories Making:

Step into the realm of low temperature glass and colored glaze accessories making, where art meets functionality. Our studio offers an opportunity to work with low-temperature glass and colored glazes, creating unique and personalized accessories. You will learn techniques of assembling pre-made low temperature glass petals and leaves from our rich collection, discover the magic of combining vibrant colors and translucent glass to craft beautiful jewelry pieces, ornaments, and decorative items. Unleash your imagination and leave with wearable art that reflects your own style!

Embroidery:

Our instructor will guide you through the process, teaching you how to create beautiful patterns, motifs, and scenes on fabric using multiple threads including silk, cotton and metal threads. Outside of basic embroidery techniques, you will discover the unique techniques that you could find nowhere else by mastering techniques in both Suzhou Style Embroidery and Royal Forbidden Stitch Embroidery (Peking Embroidery, the royal embroidery for China’s last Dynasty) such as satin stitch, seed stitch, and split stitch.

Chanhua (Chinese Thread-Wrapped Flower):

Immerse yourself in the enchanting world of Chanhua, the ancient craft of wrapping threads around flower patterns to create intricate designs. In our studio, you will learn various wrapping techniques, explore patterns and color combinations, and experiment with different flowers and plant materials. Through this hands-on experience, you will develop the skills to transform ordinary flowers into stunning decorative pieces or wearable accessories.

At our studio, we provide a nurturing and inspiring environment for artists of all levels. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced artist, our classes and workshops are designed to accommodate your individual needs and foster your artistic growth.
